On 31st August 2016, Mr. P. Nageshwar Rao, Chief Technology Officer, TAFE delivered an excellent lecture on "SMART MANUFACTURING" at NIQR Conference Hall.
Mr. S. Rajasekaran, Chairman - NIQR Chennai Branch presided over the lecture and welcomed the members present and Mr. P. K. Aggarwal, National Vice President - NIQR spoke about NIQR and its activities and introduced the speaker.
Mr. P. Nageshwar Rao started the session emphasizing the importance of being SMART to INVENT anything in today's industrial scenario. He explained smart manufacturing with some examples – Perkins Engine Plant in Hosur.
Mr. Rao gave an insight into Industry 4.0 and the evolution from Industry 1.0. He explained how the parameters like movement, throw and speed of machines are visualized digitally and made use of in manufacturing process.
He then dwelled on how product development is becoming completely virtual; getting a casting right first time has become possible today; the integrated approach towards machine design, fixture design brings them upfront in the manufacturing cycle, reducing the time to customer to 10% compared to traditional manufacturing.
He wanted all to be agile than just flexible by building in intelligence in the system including behaviour of humans.
Dr. P Ramesh, National Co-opted Executive Council Member, NIQR summed up the proceedings crediting Mr. Rao with making the audience smart.
Mr. P. K. Aggarwal released the Jul-Aug Newsletter and the session came to an end with vote of thanks by Mr. C V Gowri Sankar, Secretary, NIQR Chennai Branch.
Mr. P. Nageshwar Rao is an M tech from IIT and specialized in rotor dynamics. He is working in TAFE for the past 17 years and currently heading COE (centre of excellence) for tractor division and is the Chief Technology Officer, responsible for technology development in the field of drive train, power train, mobile hydraulics and control systems & attribute management like NVH and perceived quality. Earlier he was working in Ashok Leyland for 16 years in various areas of Product Development covering all the functions.
He has more than 10 patents to his credit and has presented technical papers in national and international forums.
