On 21st February 2018, Mr. N. Sankara Narayana Pillai, Former Head -Information Security and Risk Management, Ashok Leyland Ltd. delivered a lecture on “Information Security” at NIQR Conference Hall.
Mr. C. V. Gowri Sankar welcomed the gathering and introduced the speaker.
Mr. NSN Pillai, as he is fondly called, emphasized that Information is a vital asset and need to be protected appropriately. He elaborated how Risk is part of any business activity and how IT Risk has become very important in today’s digitalized world. He presented in simple terms how to preserve confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information while complying with all applicable requirements.
Human resources are one of the strongest and strangely at the same time, weakest links in the security chain. Achievement of security through technology is limited. He focused on select cyber attacks and preventive steps like malwares, viruses, and worms. According to him, the best management procedural controls include: Building any system from original clean master copies and not pirated versions of the software. He concluded that: Information security is no more a choice, but an imperative.
Mr. K. Manikandan, Chennai Branch Chairman, NIQR summed up the proceedings and appreciated the speaker’s passion in coaching aspirants of CIA and CISA using his vast experience.
Mr. Daniel, Office manager, NIQR honoured the speaker with a shawl, Mr. K. Manikandan, honoured the speaker with a memento and Mr. Adithya and Mr. Sayam speakers of the next program honoured the speaker with a laminated memento.
NIQR Chennai Branch Newsletter was released on the occasion by the speaker and Mr. N. Muthiah, Sr. manager, Ashok Leyland Ltd. received the first copy.
