Collaboration Opportunities between NIQR and CIPET

Senior officials from NIQR visited CIPET – Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India) at their Head Quarters in Guindy, Chennai on 17th April 2024 to Explore collaboration opportunities between NIQR and CIPET.

Prof (Dr.) Shishir Sinha, Director General, CIPET welcomed and hosted the NIQR team for the discussions and site visit of CIPET.

NIQR was represented by

The NIQR team presented a video showcasing their organization and briefed the Director General and CIPET representatives about their objectives and activities and proposed offering CIPET a customized program for students on various current topics in Quality and creating a curated Six Sigma training program tailored to their specific requirements. NIQR to conduct classes on Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and TQM for CIPET students.

The Director General expressed interest in establishing a student chapter and conducting Six Sigma Training in collaboration with NIQR after reviewing the video and the briefing.

Mr. J Bosco, Manager, CIPET assured to initiate starting the Student Chapter and organising training for students.

Mr. A. Ravichandran, Faculty gave the NIQR team a tour of their injection molding manufacturing set up and tool room, showcasing their CNC, lathe machines, EDM, and biodegradation testing facility. It was mentioned that various colleges visit this facility to gain hands-on information about plastic processing, machining, and several other manufacturing labs.

The CIPET representatives also highlighted that the Chennai center has a CAD CAM center and various testing facilities, including thermal, mechanical, chemical, rheological, electrical, optical, and several others. These facilities are open to be availed by industries at defined rates.

The CIPET representatives agreed to have follow-up discussions with the NIQR team to discuss the details of the proposed programs and to determine the next steps for the collaboration.
