INDUSTRY – 4.0 Awareness Program: No. 3
NIQR Chennai Branch started the dissemination of Industry – 4.0 awareness in the educational sector by organising the first program on a grand manner in Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Thandalam on 27th January 2017 which was attended by 600+ students and staff.
Dr. S P Srinivasan HOD- Mech Engg. welcomed the participants and faculties and Dr. S. N. Murugesan, Principal of the College in his presidential address impressed upon the students the future of manufacturing industry and thanked NIQR for its sensitising programs on Industry 4.0 which is the need of the hour. He urged NIQR to take it up in all Engineering Colleges.
Mr. G. Pandurengan, ECM, NIQR Chennai Branch started the session with a general description of the present industrial scenario in India touching upon India’s GDP, its growth potential and contribution of Auto Sector; he stressed the on the need of the hour – Skill Enhancement.
He then explained in detail the 3 phases of Industrial Revolution, namely Factory System(1.0), Technological Revolution(2.0) & Digital Revolution(3.0). He dwelt on the Industry 4.0 with a few examples through which he explained the effective use of Automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies which includes Cyber-Physical systems, the Internet of Things and cloud computing.
Mr. C. V. Gowri Sankar, Secretary, NIQR Chennai Branch briefed the students about the Basic Quality Assurance Concepts and how they will be more effective in Industry 4.0. He emphasised to the students of the importance of 5S and advised them to leave the chairs as if they are monitored for position by sensors in future. He detailed how a break-down of a machine tool affecting production will be viewed in Industry 4.0.
Two of the students came forward to voice their feedback and explained the learnings from the program and wanted NIQR to organise more such programs.
